TREE
Tree Series is an ongoing series; which lines up abstract trees, with each tree articulating a different story or meaning. Drawing in the Tree Series can be perceived both literally as trees and figuratively as other subject matters.
Karina was inspired by children's spontaneity in her approach of creating the drawing models. She spontaneously created the shape of trees with some tubes of paint, then without any alteration toward the originally created shape, she photographed it and use the photographs as reference for the colored pencil on paper drawing.
The artist chose to convey a topic through the use of a tree with its stereotypical green leaf and brown trunk - a usual object everyone is familiar with and see in daily life; because she wants an artwork that everybody understands, whether literally, and or both literally and metaphorically. Drawings in Tree Series literally present images of trees, but leave a room for viewers to imaginatively interpret it.
DIVINE FEMININE
The artworks feature abstract paint blob objects, which subtly embody feminine figure and characteristics.
The shapes are first created with acrylic paint. Then they are quickly photographed while the paint is wet; and those photographs are used as reference for these photorealistic pencil on paper drawings. The wet look of the paint highlights the sensuality of the feminine, while red color reflects the feminine’ s strong, courageous, and compassionate essence.
ZODIAC ORIGAMI
Chinese zodiac system is a fragile man-made system that shall be believed only to a certain extent. The decision of using origami form is due to the association between origami and the zodiac system being both fragile and man-made.
ENNEAGRAM ROSE
This series was built on the basis of 'Enneagram of 9 personalities'.
Roses come in different shapes, although all of them are called rose. Just like us, people...; are different personalities, bearing one common title as human.
NEED NO INTRODUCTION
This series lines up drawing of world's famous characters in minimalist abstract figurative form. It is a series, which puts emphasize on creating a recognizable characters by using a minimalist color, paint blob shape, and composition.
